Run me through the process of bringing a Skybox AI skybox into Roblox Studio
To bring a custom skybox into Roblox Creator (Roblox Studio), you can follow these steps:
Generate some skyboxes in Skybox AI:
You'll need to sign up for a Skybox AI account. There is more information on how to do this in this article here:
You can use Explore to quickly find a suitable skybox for your Roblox Studio project.
Here I chose a simple sky backdrop starting with this starter skybox.
After a few remixes I achieved a result I was happy with here.
I downloaded the image by clicking the "Download" button on the prompt bar and selected the relevant "Roblox" cubemap option.
Following this step you'll have to move the zipped folder to a suitable place on your local machine and extract all files inside.
When creating skyboxes it's always wise to consider the usage of the image. The Skydome style that was used to create this generation is a great style to begin with.
Prepare Your Skybox Images:
Skyboxes in Roblox are made from six images that represent each face of a cube (Top, Bottom, Front, Back, Left, Right).
Note: Due to the demands of users wanting to create specifically for Roblox we have created a cubemap download option specifically for use in Roblox.
Upload the Images to Roblox:
Start a new project in Roblox Studio.
Open the View tab and enable Asset Manager.
In the Asset Manager, Save to Roblox to start using the Asset manager.
Once the project is saved a new list of folders will be present in the Asset Manager.
Click Bulk Import or Add Images and upload each of the six images you downloaded from Skybox AI.
Once uploaded, you’ll find each image with its unique Asset ID in the Asset Manager.
Create the Skybox:
In Roblox Studio’s Explorer window, find the Lighting service (if you don’t see it, go to View > Explorer to enable it).
Right-click on Lighting and select Insert Object > Sky to add a new skybox.
Assign Each Image to the Skybox:
In the Properties window for the new Sky object, you’ll see fields for six directions: SkyboxBk (Back), SkyboxDn (Down), SkyboxFt (Front), SkyboxLf (Left), SkyboxRt (Right), and SkyboxUp (Up).
For each field, paste the Asset ID for the corresponding image.
You can also click on each of the fields to bring up the Asset Manager where you can preview and select the relevant image.
Adjust Settings (Optional):
In the Lighting settings, you can adjust Ambient, Brightness, OutdoorAmbient, and other parameters to enhance the overall look.
Preview and Test:
Use the Play button to preview your custom skybox in the game and make any necessary adjustments.
Conclusion
Hopefully this has given you a taste for what is possible with Skybox AI and Roblox Studio. If you create anything that you'd like to share please drop by the Discord share it with our community of Skybox AI creators.
